Embed streamed video in a web page

If you need to create a webpage that has an embedded video, you can use this tool from UCSF

This tool will generate the code necessary to embed the following kinds of files:

  • Flash
  • Quicktime (this the video standard used by WCU)
  • Real Media
  • Windows Media

Here are the steps you need to follow
1. Open the Embed Video File website

At WCU, we use a Quicktime Streaming Server, so you will want to click the Quicktime link:

2. If your video is hinted for streaming, you can click the Streaming radio button and click submit. If it isn’t hinted, just use the A Web server button.

3.Fill out the information requested. Our streaming server is ustream.wcu.edu. Change the username and name of video to match your username and video name. You should have already uploaded your file to the ustream server into the Sites/Streaming folder of your home directory.

Set the file size to the size of your video. This example shows a video that was encoded at 624×480. Choose the other options as shown and click submit.

4. Click the test media button to make sure everything works. If it doesn’t, check that your file was hinted and make sure you have uploaded the file and have the path the file spelled correctly. If it works, you can then copy and paste the resulting code into a webpage.

Direct Link to File

If you are wanting to just provide a link for your students to click inside of WebCat, you can format the url like this:

rtsp://ustream.wcu.edu/~username/name_of_movie.mov

This is an RTSP url, it needs to be opened in Quicktime Player.
