Streaming video and audio content at WCU is distributed via a Quicktime Streaming Server. In order for you to view this type of streaming media you will need to have the Quicktime Player, or Quicktime Pro installed on your machine. The Quicktime software is available for download from Apple's Quicktime Download page.
Installation Issues
You can confirm that you have Quicktime properly installed by visiting Apple's Quicktime Troubleshooting page at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/ and that you are able to view streaming content.
Please visit this page first before attempting any other troubleshooting steps. It may take some time for the page to load and determine if your installation is OK.
Connection Speed Settings
The Quicktime Player or Quicktime Plugin will often default to the "Automatic" setting, which generally tends to stream the lowest quality version of the video. Open Quicktime Preferences and then under 'Connection Speed' or 'Streaming Speed' choose the one that matches closest to the speed of your internet connection.
Firewalls and QuickTime Streaming Media
QuickTime streams are typically transported via the RTP/RTSP protocol, many firewalls (including the Windows XP Service Pack 2 firewall) block these protocols. Follow these steps to unblock these ports if necessary.
Personal Firewalls
Should you wish to open your firewall to the RTP/RTSP protocols, you need to do the following:
Open port 554 for RTSP/TCP data
Open ports 6970 through 6999 (inclusive) for RTP/UDP data.
Windows Firewall
These port settings can be changed in 'Control Panel > Security Center', at the bottom of this dialogue box, select 'Windows Firewall' from the 'Manage Security Settings'.
Click on the 'Exceptions' tab, and continue to select 'Add Port'. Proceed to add the ports and port information specific to QuickTime as listed above.
Windows Firewall (alternate solution)
Grant the applications being used an exception to the firewall rules. In the same location as above, click on the 'Exceptions' tab. Click 'Add Program', and choose your web browser from the list of applications. You may also wish to add Quicktime as well.
Hardware Firewalls (such as Linksys or D-Link)
Contact the device manufacturer or documentation for information on how to enable streaming for your local network. Alternately, see HTTP Cloaking below.
Corporate Firewalls
Many companies have policy restrictions on streaming video. You should contact your network administrator if you have any questions or problems.
