Connect to a server using SFTP with CoreFTP

These directions will show you how to use CoreFTP to make a ssh/sftp connection from a Windows based PC.

Download and install CoreFTP.

Launch CoreFTP.

Enter Site Manager settings as shown below. For your Username, use your 92# and PIN if you are a student, or your email username and password if you are faculty or staff.
Make sure all the other settings are set as below. Once set, click the Advanced Button.

Advanced Settings: Click the Directory/Folder link and fill in as shown. Enter your folder name as supplied to you when your account was created. Usually this is your first name initial and last name. If your name was Joe User, your folder name would be juser. Enter this information and click OK.

Click the Connect button at the bottom of the Site Manager window.
If you see the following window, click yes:

You will now be looking at the Main CoreFTP window. Your local machine is on the left, the server folders are on the right. You can drag and drop files between the local machine and the server in this window.

Import video from Unfinalized Sony MiniDVD Disk

If you have a Sony miniDVD based camera with an unfinalized disk, here is how you get the content off and converted to an mp4 video to be used in iTunes U, a wiki, or blog. These videos can also be placed in a web accessible directory like Paws, Claws or an fpamediaserver home folder's Sites folder.

Steps to convert video

  1. Plug Camera into computer using USB cable
  2. Launch the Sony "Import Media Files." It is on the CD that came with the camera
  3. The camera should be found automatically, if not, choose it from the Drive pop-up menu.
  4. Select the clips you want to import, and click next.
  5. Set Destination location for imported video and click import.
  6. Once video is imported, the software might ask you to optimize, close this window and the browser that opens next.
  7. Launch the Agree Video convertor, available from: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/161643
  8. Drag imported video into the Video convertor window.
  9. If you are using the software in Free mode, you will have to continue to click through dialogue boxes asking you to upgrade
